Solar Team Twente formally presented its brand new ‘The RED Engine’ racing car concept, in which they will hopefully claim the victory during this year’s World Solar Challenge.

As result of extensive evaluation of previous editions and feedback from teams, four different classes are introduced, recognising the need for elite solar car classes and non-solar electric vehicles. The RED Engine racing team will compete in the top division where cars are designed for speed and efficiency rather than comfort or practicality. This prestigious event attracts the world’s best Technical Universities and Colleges.

Aeronamic enthusiastically underwrites this professional endurance challenge to invest in education and students, keenly focussed on innovation, teamwork and future ‘greener’ means of transportation and energy, representing therefore a seamless match with Aeronamic’s mission for the future.

The race will start in Darwin on Sunday 6th October 2013 and travel the Stuart Highway to finish in Adelaide covering over 3,000 km through the Australian Outback and is all about energy management. The new RED Engine is designed according to the Monocoque principle used in Formula 1 racing for better aerodynamic performance, safety and improved handling. It embodies the latest state-of-the-art battery technology whilst opting for 6 square meters of HR Silicon solar cells.

The World Solar Challenge has been held every other year since 1987 and this time over 50 international competitors will take part in the endurance race, showcase for highly advanced automotive technology and truly promoting sustainable energy.

In the current remodelling building phase to adapt to future business, prime consideration was given to concentrate our Product Development department in modern and convenient facilities. Strengthening its determination to play a significant role in future programs by introducing new technology and new ideas on subsystem level to strengthen competitiveness in the aeronautical sector.

Aeronamic expands to that extent the floor space of its main manufacturing facility in the Netherlands to further develop, refine and streamline manufacturing solutions for the production of electric systems, such as the scroll compressor system used for cooling the avionics and galleys for all versions of Airbus A350. Test and full assembly of the system and critical parts will be performed in The Netherlands. Parts manufacturing will be carried out in our production satellite in Sibíu, Romania, marking its quest for maximum efficiency and lower cost.
